investing in gold

I don’t know a lot about the stock market and I would not know anything about it if not for my husband who owns some stocks. He was the one who explained to me how the whole thing works. I don’t often check changes in the stock market but I do check the currency conversion almost every day and I am disappointed to say that since a few months, the Euro lost a lot of its value and unfortunately for me, I earn Euros.

They say that the value of gold moves alongside the value of Euro so that means, gold is much cheaper now than before and that further means that now is the best time to buy buy gold bullion because as soon as the value of Euro picks up, like it seems to be doing recently, the value of gold will also pick up and when that happens, people who bought gold bullion can sell their gold at a higher value.

Investing in silver is also not such a bad idea because like gold, the value of silver is getting higher. Experts say that it is the best time to invest in silver and, especially, gold right now because the gold bar has a proven ability to diversify investments, protect wealth and preserve one’s purchasing power.

on to the rooms upstairs

We have three rooms on the second floor of our house and they’re supposed to be used as master’s bedroom and two kid’s room but since we only want one child (in the future), we have one extra room to be used as an office/guest room.

Right now, we don’t have permanent office furniture yet. All we have is a table and a chair at one corner and that’s good enough for now but later, I want some real office furniture for our home office.

The master’s bedroom is equally bare. All we have is the wardrobe and a temporary bed. We would like to prioritize that room but we haven’t agreed yet on what furniture to buy. I would like to go for some rustic bedroom furniture but my husband would like to have the modern ones. He wants furniture with a touch of Asian style just like those in our kitchen.

The kid’s room is empty since obviously, we don’t have a kid yet. Right now, we use it as an ironing room. It gets really messy sometimes but once I get pregnant (probably next year), I would like to do some serious work on this room. I want it to be perfect for our baby. I will personally decorate it and design it. Haha, that thought makes me want to have a baby now… but that will have to wait a bit.

rewarding myself

Finally, I am on summer break.

That was a year of hard work and I am glad I got through it. There were times when I thought… I should just quit and be a bum but every time I get those ideas, I also find the courage to continue. Work life here in Europe is stressful. Everybody demands something from you and you just have to fulfill all these demands.

So I am thinking of rewarding myself for a job well done. First, I thought of buying an ipod touch 32G but hubby already has one and I am free to use it anytime I want. We don’t need two ipods in this house. And on the other hand, my iphone can do all the things an ipod can do so an ipod is completely unnecessary.

A Macbook Pro would be a really good reward but it is quite expensive too and I am not sure if I really want to spend my hard earned money on such luxury. My reasonable side is telling me that I don’t have to spend that much on a new computer but my diabolic side is telling me to go on with it since it looks like I will have to go through another year of hard work again.

MacBook Pro or no MacBook Pro, I hope that I still have enough patience to do the same job for at least another year.

an event in January

Fasching is a festivity here in Austria where people wear costumes and parade on the street. It’s a big event especially in our city, Graz. Last January, there was a big assembly of people at the main plaza. Everybody who wants to join the festivity is welcome. Each is encouraged to wear a costume or a mask but you’re still welcome if you decided to come as you are.

I have heard many positive things about it like it’s cool to be there and so on but I did not go simply because it’s in January and that’s about the time when Austria is experiencing deep winter. If I can help it, I stay inside the house when the temperatures are low because I can’t stand the cold. So no matter how interested I was, I opted to stay home and just watch the whole thing on TV.

It was indeed a very interesting event. People got really creative with their costumes. I wonder… if I would have gone to that event, what would I have worn? I probably would have worn just simple costumes—nothing catchy since I would just be there to witness the event. Or, I would have completely hid my gender and dress up in one of those Slipknot costumes. Haha. Whatever it would have been, there’s one thing I am sure of and that is; I would have definitely worn a costume that will keep me warm.

beating the summer heat

It’s really getting hotter and hotter each day and people here have their own ways to beat the summer heat. Many houses here have lavish gardens where the owners spend time in if they cannot go somewhere because they probably have no time or they’re too tired from work. In our case, we have a small garden but it is still pretty bare right now. We still don’t have a fence  and sun shades hence; there’s no privacy. And since we agreed to finish all the things needed to be done inside the house, our garden has to wait until next summer. Right now, it would really be weird to lie in our garden in my bikini while our neighbors are permitted a full view.

So my husband and I visit a nearby lake almost every day. It’s just less than 10 minutes away so it’s very convenient for us to go there. On some days, there’s just a small crowd but there are also days when it’s packed with bathers and sunbathers. There’s also not a lot of privacy there but it’s different when you’re not the only one wearing a bikini because people don’t really stop and stare.

Other than spending afternoons by the lake, we also meet friends and have barbecue parties with them. Next Tuesday, we are invited to another dinner party where guests are supposed to bring some food to share. I’m not yet sure what to bring but I am thinking about bringing some homemade Philippine desserts. Maybe some rice cakes? Not sure yet. I am already excited because it sounds to me like it’s going to be a Luau party. I haven’t been to one and if one of our friends is going to have one, we definitely want to receive luau invitations . It should be fun.

I am really enjoying this time of the year.
