A Story of a Guy Overcoming Debts

I came across a website which is completely about the author’s debts and about the steps he is taking to overcome these debts. He started his story by telling that he has a few credit cards and that he pushed these credit cards to their absolute limits on a holiday with his partner and some friends. Unfortunately for him, added on the month’s interest, his credit cards went over their credit limits which means that when he makes the minimum payment, it only just cleared the interest. Poor guy. He sounds so desperate he even made a website about the whole thing.

I continue reading his story and I found out that he also tried to get some sort of a debt management plan or DMP, but because his inquiries to the company offering the DMP were not handled well, he shun the idea of getting a DMP away. That was the point where I stopped reading.

I believe that a DMP from a trusted company that has strong relationships to negotiate with creditors could really help him. Declaring bankruptcy would be a no-no as this entails too much hassle and some money along the way too. If he could have been a little bit more patient in looking for companies that offers DMP, he could have immediately started to lightly settle his debts.

Jessie James Who?

jessie-james.bmpWe were trying to watch the movie “The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford” yesterday. I said “were trying” because my husband and I slept before the movie ended. I think I didn’t even reach the half of the movie.

I remember I bought the DVD because I saw Brad Pitt on the cover. Now, I am not a big fan of Mr. Jolie but he just gives the impression that the movies he is in should be good movies. For some, Jessie James may be a good movie for someone who doesn’t know Jessie James (urhm! that would be me), the movie will be considered boring.

I didn’t know Jessie James until this morning when I read about him in Wikipedia. I might try to watch the movie again and I hope that this time, I can see it in a whole new way.

Simply No Place like Manila

I was browsing our pictures taken during our holiday in the Philippines and I saw this.

It’s taken from our hotel room in Manila.

Makes me wanna sing the song that goes something like…

Manila, Manila
I keep coming back to Manila
Simply no place like Manila
Manila, I’m coming home

Between Writing and Nose Jobs

I get out of focus every time specially when I blog. When writing, I sometimes find myself running out for words and sentences as a result, I will have this blank stupid look from staring into nothingness. Does that happen to you too? When this happens to me, I take a break and I let a few minutes pass by opening some websites but in most cases, one site will lead me to another and to another until I forget that there’s an entry waiting for me to complete. Like now. I don’t know which site led me to this site showing famous people who had rhinoplasty procedures varying from revision rhinoplasty to a complete nose surgery. Well, I am not really big on medical terms (I get lost in them) so I’d say that these “nose jobs” really have amazing results. By “amazing” I don’t mean that this procedure always yields a positive result but “amazing” in a way that it will have a big impact on the person’s appearance. You will certainly notice the before-and-after difference.

I am quite happy with my nose and I don’t see any time in my future that I’d be having this procedure (or any other cosmetic surgery for that matter) but more and more people (not only the famous ones) are going through it and most of them are happy with the results.

*I should really go back to that incomplete entry in my other blog now.

That Picture of Me in My Bikini

My husband was surprised to see that I posted a picture of me in my bikini. All the while he thought that I am not comfortable about something like that. Well I thought so too but I guess it’s not a big deal.

I remember it was really a big thing for me to wear a pair of bikini in public (public meaning if there is more than 1 stranger around). I remember how it was when we went to Malaysia last year. I didn’t go out to the beach in my bikini until hearing Marcus’ long talk about how it is perfectly fine to swim in the beach in bikinis and how people wouldn’t care. It was after a long cajoling before I got myself to wear bikinis. And look at that, a year later—I don’t care anymore.

Marcus is right. It is not a big deal unless you make it into a big deal. If you walk around in bikinis (like 99% of the women in the beach) in beaches like it is the most natural thing in the world (nowadays it is) then nobody would care but if you act all weird then people will stare.

And oh by the way, the pair of bikini in the picture is courtesy of my mom. It was hand crochet by her. She made it especially for me. Look at that! She’s not conservative in fact, she wishes she can wear the bikinis herself.

Get Out of the Mortgage Maze

There has been a study that shows that almost two thirds of homeowners would find it difficult to choose a new mortgage. This is completely understandable. People are really having difficulty deciding over which mortgage they should go for. I mean with all the different information from experts in the mortgage industry plus some reports about mortgage breakdowns and news about crisis faced by lenders, we can only expect homeowners to be lost the huge mortgage maze.

It’s natural for someone to look after his/her own interests so homeowners would like to get the best deal but what’s going on in mortgage industry is not making it easy for them to find the deal which they are comfortable with.

The best advice would be for homeowners to find a company which is independent of any one lender and can confidently source from all major mortgage lenders. In this way homeowners are just dealing with one company and through this company, homeowners can compare offers before they agree on a deal which they feel is right for them. Less people and companies to deal with, less confussion. It is also important for homeowners to take their time and study their choices carefully before making a decision.

Do Not Book Your Holidays thru IslandsAccomodations.com

Remember that short post about a travel agency office? I guess, now I am ready to explain further why I warn you about booking your holidays (in the Philippines) through this agency office.

As you know well, we just had our holiday in the Philippines and to my mistake; I have let this incompetent travel agency book a resort for us. I have personal choices of resorts but since it was the Chinese New Year week, all those resorts were fully booked and so IslandsAccommodation.com recommended a resort which still has available rooms. Olman’s View, Bohol, Philippines—that was the resort they highly recommended. After hearing some of their praises about the resort, I asked a very particular question; “Does it have a beach where we can swim?” Sounds like a very stupid question but you see, the stupid bitch from IslandsAccommodations.com said that Olman’s View is a cliff resort so I wondered if they have a part of the sea where their guests can swim. The very same stupid bitch said; “Yes, ma’am. The sea is just a few steps down and there’s a small beach where you can swim.” I thought OK so I said, I’d take it.

Aileen (that’s her name), said they cannot fully confirmed my booking unless I pay the booking’s total amount. So I said “fine”. But this absolutely incompetent travel agency by the name of IslandsAccommodations.com, doesn’t accept credit card payments. They want the payment in cash. Duh! How ancient is that!? But because I was afraid that I lose the reservation, I agreed. I withdraw the money so I can deposit in their bank account in an almost non-existent bank. It took me a day to find a branch of their bank which is not available in the city where I live so I have to drive to the next province. Can you imagine? Transfer from my bank to their bank will take a few days and I can’t do that becuase they gave me a deadline.

In good faith, I did what they instructed me to do—pay the full amount by depositing it to their bank account then fax the deposit slip to them. After that, they confirmed my booking.

To cut the story short, my husband and I got to the resort and we were like—how can IslandsAccomodations.com recommend a place like that? Olman’s View is so awful I also wrote a post about them in a separate blog. Olman’s View doesn’t have a decent beach to swim in. A harbour is about 200 meters in front of it so you can imagine how the water is like. Yep, it was totally disgusting. I didn’t complain to the resort because they were not the ones I talked to (although they are also evil). I complained to the freakin’ travel agency. I mean really, how can they recommend a place like that???!? Don’t they understand that for people going to the islands in the tropics, a beach to swim in is very important? And to think that I particularly asked them that question. What that does make of them? A money grabbing company who doesn’t care if their client’s preferences are met. They lie to their clients, take the money, send their clients to that next resort/hotel available and that’s it. How cunning and evil is that?

I complained. Very strongly. I point out their a-holeness and demanded that we be transferred in another decent resort. The stupid bitch from IslandsAccommodation.com denied that she recommended the resort to me. How pathetic and incompetent!

Anyway, IslandsAccommodations.com agreed that we get out from Olman’s and move to another resort. Olman’s View agreed too but not without taking the 50% cancellation fees. Hah!

So we transferred to another resort. We got a standard, non-airconditioned room with NO hot shower and NO freshwater (the water coming out of the faucet is salty) but in fairness, this resort have a lovely white sand beach. Anyway, the room cost 1240PHP/night. That’s the only available room in that resort so we took it. Based on the 3100PHP/night deluxe room we originally booked at Olman’s, I believe we are deserve a refund. But no were not able to get that. In fact, the thick-faced, highly incompetent travel agency wanted to charge us more!?!

I refused to pay the 50% cancellation fees at Olman’s. It wasn’t our mistake. We showed up. We didn’t like the hotel—yes but it’s because we were tricked into booking in that hotel. IslandsAccommodations.com. misinformed us so they should shoulder the cancellation fees.

I argued and fought with the a-holes from Islandsaccommodations.com until they succumbed and agreed to cover our accommodations at Alona Tropical (the resort where we moved into) and not charge us for more money. They refused to give us some refund but fine.

The stories about their stupidity and incompetence in all of my blogs will be the refund.
