Diva Of All Divas

“Well, first of all, there was going to be a big time between ending the show, ending the tour, and going to Vegas,” she said. “I wouldn’t have to move. I wouldn’t have to travel. I could just stay there. Because that’s what I really can’t do anymore, is I can’t go on the road. It’s just too much. It’s just too impossibly hard. And I started there, and I thought that it might be fun.”

Those are Cher’s words when she signed a three-year, 200-show engagement at Caesars Palace. This is good news to a lot of Cher’s fans who now get the chance to see Cher live anytime from early May 2008 to May 2011 in Las Vegas. Cher tickets at Ceasars Palace will be available online so anywhere you are, you can avail of the tickets.

Given the chance, I will certainly fly to Vegas with my lovely gay friends, who are also so in love with Cher, just to see the singing diva in all her beauty. Who wouldn’t? I mean, Cher is one of the best female artists of the century! She’s a very lovely talented singer and actress. Yep, she can also act and she can act well. In fact, she won a best actress award for her role in the movie “Moonstruck” so if I were to spend money to see a diva, I would certainly spend it to see Cher.

Marcus’ Dark Pearl

We were having a quiet Sunday morning. My husband was reading a magazine while I was reading my emails. When he looked at me and asked if he could take a picture of me, I said okay after asking for what is the picture. He said he wanted to try something—a Photoshop tutorial he got from some magazine.

The photo shooting took no more than 10 minutes because there was no preparation needed and he just wanted one picture. After a few clicks of his camera, he said he got the shot he wanted then he started to work on his computer. It took him hours before he came up with this:

Very nice.

Mover’s Helpers

Since we are moving soon, I took the time to read about tips on how to minimize the work load and the stress of having to move to another place. I did find a few tips on how to organize everything before the move and also I found a site offering a service that will help movers from packing to unpacking.

HireAHelper.com is among the recognized providers of moving labor in the US. With them you can hire a helper that will help you get the work done. Other than moving help, they also offer landscaping help, cleaning help, and general help.
Their system is quite simple here is how it works.

Search and select a helper / helpers. You’ll be able to access profiles of local helpers in your area. You can also read reviews about them and you can compare their service charges so you can be sure to get the right help for the right price.

Helpers contact you. Once you selected the helpers, these helpers will contact with you within 24 hours. If for some reason they cannot assist you, you may choose other helpers or choose to cancel the job. Once you offer a job and they accept, payment will be made with your credit card and you will receive an authorization code.

When the work is done hand them an authorization code. After the workers have completed the work, simply hand them the authorization code you received during checkout and we will deposit the funds into their bank account.

That’s it. Helpers are charged per hour and services offered range from packing, loading, driving, unpacking, cleaning, and even other sorts of day labor like yard work. Unfortunately, HireAHelper.com only offers services in the US and I we are not moving from or in America. I wish that we can find such affordable service in Austria because otherwise, we will have to do all the work.

Filipino Teachers in Shanghai

Until now we are not sure about our destination. Will it be Shanghai or Austria? The uncertainty is killing me but anyway, I was thinking that in case we move to Shanghai I should maybe go back to teaching. I am happy with blogging but would be happier if I can teach as well. I can teach in the morning and blog in the afternoon. Something like this would be really nice. So, I searched for teaching jobs in Shanghai but this is what I found:

With their wallets bulging, more and more wealthy Shanghai families are hiring Philippine maids to speak English with the kids, despite an official ban on hiring foreign workers.

Some rich Shanghaiese are willing to pay 6,000 yuan (750 U.S. dollars) a month to hire a Philippine servant with a college education background, much higher than the average salary of 3,000 to 4,000 yuan (375 to 500 dollars) that most Philippine servants can get.

Yep, looks like more and more wealthy Chinese are hiring educated Filipinos as maids or nannies. I honestly don’t know how to react. If I were single, I’ll probably consider getting this job. Why? Because of three reasons

1. You cannot get such salary by being a maid or a (professional) teacher in the Philippines.

2. Filipino English teachers in China are not in demand because of their color. Yes, Chinese people prefer blond-hair-and-blue-eyed red necks from an English speaking country over well qualified Filipinos. It’s totally racist but that’s life. Note: I am not saying that all Filipino teachers who come to China to teach are excellent teachers or that all white people who teach English in China are terrible and are unqualified teachers, I am just stating the fact that white people have a higher chance of get a teaching job in China than the brown island people.

3. If you are a Filipino and you are lucky enough to land a teaching job in Shanghai, you will probably not get a salary more than 5K RMB because you are a brown.

I know that by doing so I am damaging the market for Filipino teachers and I am sort of giving in to racism but given my three reasons above, who is there to judge me? It may seem like it’s all about the money but if you have a poor family back home who is counting on you, you’ll do it too. Anyway, I am glad that I am not put in the position where I have to choose whether to accept such job or not but this is to say that I do understand those Filipino professionals who stomach working as a servant.

Cher: Catch Her in Las Vegas

cher.jpgOne thing that my mom and I share is our interest in Cher. I remember us dancing like crazy while singing “if I could turn back time…” My mom learned and started to love Cher in her early 20s and a few decades later, I followed. I admired Cher because other than being one of the best female artists of the century, her beauty doesn’t seem to fade! She still has the sparkle in her huge sexy eyes and she still got that smooth and flawless skin.

Maybe not a lot of us know but Cher is also an excellent actress. She actually won a Best Actress award for her role in the movie “Moonstruck”. Not a lot of singers who tried acting were able to accomplish that so kudos to Cher. Also, another interesting thing about Cher is that before having a career, she’d been with Warren Beaty and in the early 80s, she dated Tom Cruise! Ok, maybe that is not cool for most of you but for me it is because these two men are among the few whom I consider to be truly handsome.

Cher is living a full life and there is no sign that she is stopping soon. Right now, she’s going to do a series of shows in Las Vegas and for sure, the Cher Tickets at Caesars Palace will be selling like hot pancakes. She is replacing Celine Dion and her shows will start in the beginning of May 2008.

One Great Comedy Show

mwc.jpgI do like “Nip/Tuck” but sometimes I also need a break from its dramatic and derange plot so I put “Married with Children” in our DVD player every now and then.

I don’t remember watching a single episode of this comedy TV series in the Philippines and I don’t understand why. I mean how can some of the Philippine TV channels broadcast the reruns of “Beverly Hills 90210” over and over again and not air a single episode of “Married with Children”?

I think this show is great! I like “Friends” and “The Nanny” but the characters in these sitcoms doesn’t have the verbal jousts the characters “Married with Children” have. The lines are well written and the members of the cast are excellent too.
