Garden No More

gardenIt’s been a while since I last went out in the garden. I was busy all summer blogging, organizing, and scrapbooking. Last year was different. I just arrived from the Philippines and the first thing that Hubby and I did was to go shopping for vegetable seeds for his garden. We had ample supplies of vegetables for our table the entire summer.

This year, we passed on the vegetable garden simply because Hubby and I had other plans which never materialized. The days seemed to be shorter now, and it’s only about a couple of weeks more and summer will be over soon. I went in our garden out back yesterday and saw what was used to be our vegetable garden now dressed in dried withered weeds.

Like Father Like Daughter

My step-daughter finally found her own apartment in the city. Her father and I helped her moved out. She has lots of stuff to bring to her new apartment that it took her more than a couple of weekends to sort things out and settle in. One of the reasons why she has a hard time sorting out things was that she can’t decide which stuff to bring and which stuff to leave, throw out, or put in the yard sale. After her seemingly endless struggle with the sorting thing-y she finally got everything figured out. Lastly, her father asked her if there is anything she wants for her new apartment. And without any hesitation she asked her father if she can have the grandfather clock that sits nicely in our living room.

It was her favorite piece in the house she said and she wants it because it reminds her of all the good memories she had growing up. Her father only laughed and with that she knew then that she was pushing her luck too much because that grandfather clock is also her father’s favorite piece in the living room.

A week after my step-daughter moved out, I surfed the internet and read an article from this cool website entitled “Make Clocks a Part of your College Shopping“ and showed it to my hubby and he was convinced that his daughter indeed need a clock. We found an amazing collection of grandfather clocks similar to the one we have in the living room from 1-800-4CLOCKS.com and instantly he bought one online for her. Now she is happy. She sits her new Howard Miller grandfather clock that her father gave her in her new living room. She is now ready to make new happy memories with her new found freedom.

Like Father Like Son

My 6-year old nephew Toby came home from school the other day with a little duckling in his shirt pocket. He bought the baby duck outside the school gate on his way home. He planned to put it in a cage and take good care of it until it lays egg.

More than 30 years ago, his father [my dear brother Gary] came home with a little duckling in his shirt pocket too. He bought the baby duck outside his school’s gate on his way home too. And he did plan to put it in a cage to take good care of it too until it would lay egg.

Talking about the circle of life or history repeats itself. Both the poor ducks end up in the same fate. They both died in the cage.

A Guilt-less Wife

napOne of the beauties of being a stay-at-home wife is that… you are in control of your own situation. I mean, I can go back to bed anytime I want to [right after Hubby left for work]. The chores can always wait until I am ready to take control. And I can savor the peace of the house when everyone left for work or school.

Being a stay-at-home wife, I can do anything at my own pace without anybody bitching about it. And more importantly, I can even do nothing without feeling guilty. Of course, there is always a downside to everything. But for now, I don’t want to feel guilty about anything because everything is just perfect.

Stress-free Christmas Shopping Solved

I know, Thanksgiving Day is still more than a couple of months away and summer is not even over yet. I know, there are lots of things that could happen in 2 months time and it’s too early to plan ahead for Thanksgiving Day… much less for Christmas Day. But here is the thing. I am a smart shopper. And I need to make sure that everything will be ok come Christmas Day. I mean, I need my Christmas tree all set for the season with all the trimmings and gifts around it. I need to do my shopping early so that all I can think about is the food. That is why, Thanksgiving Day is so important to me [aside from being thankful for all the blessings that we received for the whole year] because of that special “day” after Thanksgiving Day – Black Friday. It is the day where there is nothing more important than SALE.

But this year, I know something will surely change because of the 2008 thanksgiving specials. This year I don’t need to wake up early to be at the store at 5 am to wait for its opening and fight with shoppers to get the items I want at bargain price. This year I will have a hassle-free shopping experience because I will be doing my early Christmas shopping online. Yes, with BlackFriday.biz I can buy all the gifts I need at real Black Friday price. It is a user friendly site that offers email alerts that will give me an idea of all the new ads that will be posted there like Macy’s Black Friday Ads that offers cool discounted items and will be delivered right at my doorstep.

This year, I will have a real stress-free Merry Christmas, so how cool is that?
