1st Wedding Anniversary Gift

Ten months ago, we got married so that means in two months, we’ll have our first year anniversary and being the nice wife that I am (haha), I am already thinking of what I could give Marcus on our first wedding anniversary.

red-shoe.jpgI am not the kind to give expensive gifts. For Marcus, I think the most expensive gift I ever gave to him is the Nikon camera flash. Normally, I give something that is intimate and personal. I won’t go into details now but just to give you an idea… ummm…in one occasion, I gave him a pair of red 6 inch high heeled shoes—the strappy kind. It wasn’t for him to wear, It was for me (*wink).

For our first year wedding anniversary, I am thinking of giving him a lap dance. How’s that? Haha. I wish I can make a lap dance but maybe not this time because I am not so comfortable with my body right now. I was 7 kilos overweight two months ago and I don’t think I can shed the extra 5 kilos before October plus he must be EXTRA nice to get a lap dance (haha) so I have to think of something else.

Suggestions, anyone?

Making a Home

It’s been almost two months since we moved in here in Shanghai and almost everything about this city is still new for us. It’s still a place far away from our families and friends and we still need a few more months until we can call this place “home” but we are working on it already. We try to go out and meet new people as much as we can and of course we already start working on our new flat to make it homier.

We started with the basics things and I think we have them all now. Meaning, it is now time to start giving our flat its character. I made a list of what else to buy and a couch bed made it to number one. We’ll put the couch bed in my office. That room will be converted to a guest room whenever we have guests. We also agreed to get some plants and some fancy rugs for the living room and for the office/guest room. Of course we didn’t forget about the clocks since we need one in each of the rooms. For the living room, we decided to get a simple mantel clock instead of the old time favorite grandfather clock and for the dining room, we will hang a modern wall clock. I have read somewhere that clocks are one of the pieces that we can use to spruce up a new place and make it something that is more familiar to us and I completely agree to that.

I think we are in a good way to making our new flat into a “home”.

Thanks to Ruthi

I think Ruthi has done a great job writing articles for BizarreMarriage.com. All her articles about intercultural marriage, intercultural relationship, and online dating are very straight forward and at the same time entertaining. I really can say that it was a good decision to hire her to write for that blog.

I like all her articles specially the online dating series and I have one favorite and it is where she said the following:

Mail-order Bride is a thing of the past. But intercultural marriage is still the thing of the present. Intercultural relationship defied discrimination against race. Intercultural marriage challenged cultural barriers. And intercultural union disputed geographical obstacles. Therefore, there is nothing that can change or alter it because of one important reason – it is acceptable. Two people of different culture, race, tradition, orientation and background are bind together with common understanding, dedication, acceptance and commitment. And with these facts, our society has totally recognized its existence if not the significance of this kind of relationship.

Ruthinian Orona-Gregoire

It’s a very direct and honest statement and I completely agree with everything in it.

Team Building Mission

Marcus will be away on a company outing on Friday and Saturday and unfortunately, they cannot bring their wives with them (haha). I asked what the outing is all about and he told me that their management is promoting team work and camaraderie among the employees so they organized this event.

I think it’s cool whenever a company does something like this. It paves the way for employees to get to know each other and learn how to work well in a team. There are companies like TeamWorx that provides designed programs such as kouzes and posner leadership challenge. These activities are aimed to build strong teams and better working relationships. They have more programs so if you’re an organizer of such events, it’s best to visit their site and see what they can offer.

Enjoying Knowledge

It’s been a month since I have started attending my German language course and I think that those four straight weeks of going to school for 5 hours each day has paid off. I can feel the huge development whenever I try to read texts in German and whenever I watch something in German. Now that my knowledge in the German language has surpassed that of a beginner’s, I think learning a foreign language is not so bad. I remember how negative I was towards learning German. I’ve always seen it as an obligation but now that I can speak and understand it, I am actually enjoying it. Of course the constraint of having to go to school every day still sucks and I don’t think that will change but I am really glad that I agreed to learn German and I am glad that I’ve got a husband who is very supportive and who does not lose his patience even during the time when I was so uncooperative.

Tomorrow, we’ll have our midterm exams and I don’t have huge worries about it. I am confident that I can and I will do well on it so tonight, instead of going over my notes, I will blog and after that I will read a book—a romance novel written in German.

In Search for the Perfect Wedding Bands

I remember when we were looking for the perfect pair of wedding bands. That was last year and it was a big stress. Marcus originally wanted gold wedding bands but for me the color of gold is not it. I didn’t want anything flashy so I suggested we get white gold rings or tungsten rings instead. At first he didn’t know what tungsten rings look like so we asked one of the saleswoman to show us and since the saleswoman sensed that we didn’t like the color of gold, she showed us other rings of different materials. Other than the tungsten rings, she showed us titanium rings and palladium rings as well. We did have our top 10 rings and we sort of cut them down until we agreed to get a pair of simple solid platinum wedding bands.

The stress of finding the wedding rings comes from the notion that you’ll wear these rings for the rest of your life so they should be something really special and something you’ll always consider as beautiful. Plenty of time and lots of choices are needed and so for those of you who are starting to look for wedding rings, the internet is a good place to start. At TitaniumStyle.com for example, you’ll see different styles of wedding bands. They have titanium wedding bands and rings made of tungsten. They have other jewelries too. If you purchase from them, you’ll enjoy a lifetime warranty, fast production and delivery, and low shipping rates.
