The More the Merrier

changing seasonI promised that I will not make another blog after Vienna helped me set up Ruthilicious. I promised I will not make another blog because the process that I went through with Ruthilicious was traumatic enough that made me sick of blogging for a day or two. I promised that I will not make another blog because my 6 [or so... I already lost count] other blogs are all being neglected because I have no time anymore for them. Sadly, I wasn’t able to keep my promise.

I have another blog…. Changing Seasons which will feature everything about my new “home”, Maine. And just like a new baby being born… I am again so excited and so focused on it. Well, my family every growing. The saying… “the more the merrier” best fits my current situation.

Shopping for Fans

It’s almost September but the temperature in our place is still high during midday. From early evenings to early mornings, it cools down a little bit. I am thankful that for this year, we are past using air conditioners 24/7. We can now use ceiling fans which I think is healthier compared to air conditioners.

For those of you who are shopping for ceiling fans, you can do it online. Just visit Ferrys.com because they have a wide selection of ceiling fans and ceiling fan accessories from manufacturers such as Casablanca, Craftmade, Ellington, Fanimation, Hunter Fan Company, Luceplan, Matthews Fans, Minka Aire, Modern Fan Company, Monte Carlo, NuTone, Quorum and Westinghouse. You’ll also find different styles of Casablanca ceiling fans, modern and traditional ceiling fans. Their ceiling fan customization system assists in configuring and ordering ceiling fans to your exact specifications with all accessories and their ceiling fan search tool quickly helps you find the fan of your choice.

Divorce in the Philippines

Yesterday we had a discussion about family. My classmates were particularly eager to know about me since I am the only foreigner in the class. They asked all sorts of questions about a typical Filipino family. At some point of our discussion, I said that there is no divorce in the Philippines and they were all shocked and they immediately started firing questions at me regarding divorce in the Philippines?

Questions such as if you don’t have law on divorce, what happens to the kids when their parents separate? What if the couple doesn’t love each other anymore? What of the wife is a battered by the husband? Who supports the wife after separation since she can’t demand anything from the husband? Is there any law to protect the women? What about the kids, who supports them when parents are separated? What if you are married to a foreigner and the foreigner divorced you? And so on.

I’ll probably go to hell by stating this but I agree that the Philippines should accept and formulate a law on divorce. We already have annulment and it seems to be catering only to rich people since they can easily finance the annulment process. Legal separation and remarriage should also be extended to the poor. Why don’t we just accept divorce and make a clear and definite law about it? In this manner we will lessen the illegitimate kids born from parents who can no longer get married again since they were previously married to other persons. Divorce will protect both couples from being exploited and maltreated by the other in a marriage. Divorce will define responsibilities of the couple after the separation. Divorce will create more jobs. Imagine how many Psychologist, lawyers, accountant, and guidance counselors will get jobs when there is divorce?

I know a lot of conservatives will not agree but common’… do you still wear “saya”—the kind they used in the Spanish time? Not anymore, right? You probably still use “saya” but the one which is more modern…a “saya” which is design to fit the current fashion. Now my point is, we do value “family” but times have changed and I don’t suggest that we stop valuing it but I suggest that we broaden our views about what a family is. A child with his mom who is divorced is a family. A previously divorced man and a previously divorced woman married to each other is a family and etc. Now you get my point? What’s your take on this?

1st Wedding Anniversary Gift

Ten months ago, we got married so that means in two months, we’ll have our first year anniversary and being the nice wife that I am (haha), I am already thinking of what I could give Marcus on our first wedding anniversary.

red-shoe.jpgI am not the kind to give expensive gifts. For Marcus, I think the most expensive gift I ever gave to him is the Nikon camera flash. Normally, I give something that is intimate and personal. I won’t go into details now but just to give you an idea… ummm…in one occasion, I gave him a pair of red 6 inch high heeled shoes—the strappy kind. It wasn’t for him to wear, It was for me (*wink).

For our first year wedding anniversary, I am thinking of giving him a lap dance. How’s that? Haha. I wish I can make a lap dance but maybe not this time because I am not so comfortable with my body right now. I was 7 kilos overweight two months ago and I don’t think I can shed the extra 5 kilos before October plus he must be EXTRA nice to get a lap dance (haha) so I have to think of something else.

Suggestions, anyone?

Making a Home

It’s been almost two months since we moved in here in Shanghai and almost everything about this city is still new for us. It’s still a place far away from our families and friends and we still need a few more months until we can call this place “home” but we are working on it already. We try to go out and meet new people as much as we can and of course we already start working on our new flat to make it homier.

We started with the basics things and I think we have them all now. Meaning, it is now time to start giving our flat its character. I made a list of what else to buy and a couch bed made it to number one. We’ll put the couch bed in my office. That room will be converted to a guest room whenever we have guests. We also agreed to get some plants and some fancy rugs for the living room and for the office/guest room. Of course we didn’t forget about the clocks since we need one in each of the rooms. For the living room, we decided to get a simple mantel clock instead of the old time favorite grandfather clock and for the dining room, we will hang a modern wall clock. I have read somewhere that clocks are one of the pieces that we can use to spruce up a new place and make it something that is more familiar to us and I completely agree to that.

I think we are in a good way to making our new flat into a “home”.

Thanks to Ruthi

I think Ruthi has done a great job writing articles for BizarreMarriage.com. All her articles about intercultural marriage, intercultural relationship, and online dating are very straight forward and at the same time entertaining. I really can say that it was a good decision to hire her to write for that blog.

I like all her articles specially the online dating series and I have one favorite and it is where she said the following:

Mail-order Bride is a thing of the past. But intercultural marriage is still the thing of the present. Intercultural relationship defied discrimination against race. Intercultural marriage challenged cultural barriers. And intercultural union disputed geographical obstacles. Therefore, there is nothing that can change or alter it because of one important reason – it is acceptable. Two people of different culture, race, tradition, orientation and background are bind together with common understanding, dedication, acceptance and commitment. And with these facts, our society has totally recognized its existence if not the significance of this kind of relationship.

Ruthinian Orona-Gregoire

It’s a very direct and honest statement and I completely agree with everything in it.

Team Building Mission

Marcus will be away on a company outing on Friday and Saturday and unfortunately, they cannot bring their wives with them (haha). I asked what the outing is all about and he told me that their management is promoting team work and camaraderie among the employees so they organized this event.

I think it’s cool whenever a company does something like this. It paves the way for employees to get to know each other and learn how to work well in a team. There are companies like TeamWorx that provides designed programs such as kouzes and posner leadership challenge. These activities are aimed to build strong teams and better working relationships. They have more programs so if you’re an organizer of such events, it’s best to visit their site and see what they can offer.
