unexplainable energy

I feel great! I have been working like a dog since Sunday but I don’t mind. I just feel so motivated at the moment. I feel that if I don’t use the energy I have now, it’ll just go to waste and since there’s a personal project I have been planning for a long time, I decided to channel my energy to that.

I think I have done a great progress on my personal project but this progress comes with a downside. I still have freelancing jobs at Odesk, and I have my blogs to attend to, but unfortunately, these two took the back seats since I started working on my personal project. I haven’t been updating my blogs like I promised myself (at least one post on each blog each week) and I haven’t been working on Odesk that much so I really have to catch up on these duties very badly.

Sometimes I think I am so bad with managing my time…, like when I wasted a whole week watching a bunch of movies. Other times I feel that I just have too much stuff on my hand that no matter how good I am with time management, I will never ever be able to catch up with all the things I need and want to do… and this is what I feel at this particular moment.

So anyway, I think that this incredible burst of energy I am experiencing at the moment will have an end. I just hope that it will end after I am done with the project I am working on. I exerted too much effort on it already. I  tried to learn as much as I can in a very short period of time, I am prioritizing it over my blogs, and I am casting the chance of earning money from Odesk aside so I can work on it. I would be definitely disappointed with myself if by any reason, I just decided to give up on it.

I hope this energy and motivation will not go anytime soon.

vien’s movie reviews

Here’s a list of the movies I watched in the last few days. Thanks to our new internet connection and some free online movie websites, I can watch as many movies I as I want for free.

  1. Black Swan: Another brilliant movie starring one of my favorite actresses, Natalie Portman. Even if ballet does not interest you, you should still see this movie. The story is brilliant and the acting is just superb. No wonder why Natalie pocketed all the available major best actress awards.
  2. Hall Pass: A stupid comedy. Not my kind of movie but I sat through it.
  3. Harry Potter 7 (1st part): I watched this in the cinema when it came out. Being a Harry Potter fan, I just have to see it again before the part 2 comes out in June.
  4. Tangled: Love this Disney adaptation of Rapunzel.
  5. Karate Kid: Cool entertaining movie. Hi-yah!
  6. The Tourist: It’s ok. The story is not that fascinating and actually, it’s kind of boring compared to “Salt” but it’s Johnny Dept and Angelina Jolie in a movie! I just have to see that even if I am not a fan of Angelina at all.
  7. Easy A: I admit, I like this teen movie. Story is great. It’s not the kind that makes you think but it’s interesting.
  8. Love and Other Drugs: Too much of Anne Hathaway’s boobies! LOL. I don’t know what I feel about this movie. It’s just seeing Anne Hathaway in a complete different light. I like her better in the “The Devil Wears Prada”.
  9. Switched: Love the story. Love Jennifer Anniston.
  10. Just Go With It: I don’t particularly like the story, but it’s a Jennifer Anniston movie, and that means, I can sit through it again.
  11. No Strings Attached: Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher in a funny sex comedy movie. This won’t help your IQ at all but it’s entertaining.
  12. The Social Network: Interesting movie. Must watch specially if you are an FB user and would like to know a bit about how it started. The movie, they say, is not 100% factual but still, it gives you a glimpse on why, what, how, and who’s behind FB.

Note: These are only those I can remember. There are more but some just escape my memory at the moment. There will be more of these kind of movie reviews posts coming in the next few days.

abusing our new internet plan

our internet provider logo

our internet provider

We are not expecting our high-speed internet until the end of this month but it was installed and activated much earlier than we expected. The fastest internet connection being offered here in Austria is the Fiber Power Broadband Internet but that kind of connection is just available in the city (we live in the suburbs).

What we have is called xDSL High-Speed Internet. I am not really an expert but they say that xDSL High-Speed Internet is half as fast as Fiber Power Broadband Internet. My gosh, if the internet speed we have now is only half as fast as Fiber Power Broadband Internet, FPBI should be really really really fast.

I am very much contented with our internet connection. I can stream videos, music, and movies without interruption. I don’t have to wait. Buffer time is done within milliseconds. It’s really fast and since it is unlimited, I am sort of abusing it. Haha. Since its activation three days ago, I already watched six movies and loads of YouTube videos. Having this connection enables me to save some bucks. I don’t need to go to the cinema anymore and I also don’t need to rent DVDs anymore. I can watch movies online for free. So cool!

The only thing is, I spend so much time watching movies that I can’t work anymore so I am not expecting a decent amount of money coming in from my freelance jobs this week.

turtle speed internet connection

I do have an unlimited internet plan. Here in Austria, you can get a decent internet plan for 15Euros/month. According to the latest currency conversion, that’s about 926PHP. Pretty cheap compared to the expensive but oh so slow internet connection back home in the Philippines. I use a USB dongle that I can connect to our WLAN when I’m at home and when I go out, I simply take the USB dongle with me, so I can have internet access anywhere.

So anyway, with the internet plan I have now, I can surf with the speed of 128Kbits. That is fast and I am quite contented with it. The only small imperfection with this plan is: once I reached 15GB, it slows down to 20-50Kbits (that’s still fast compared to SmartBro’s speed during peak hours, i think). I can still surf “unlimitedly” but with a slower speed.

I rarely reach my 15GB/month internet data volume limit so it rarely bothers me that I have a limit. But last week, I was watching a lot of CNN news online about Japan and Libya that I used up all my internet data volume. I know that I have a limit but I was not able to help myself from watching last weeks’ news.

To cut the story short, I now have a slow internet connection and I really can’t work with this kind of connection. It slows me down and it irritates me.

I am glad that our 2-years contract with this internet provider is going to end next month. We are switching to a High-Speed Fiber Power internet cable. It will be a bit more expensive but it will be truly unlimited. No internet data volume limit, and the speed can reach up to 100MBPS. With this connection, it will be possible to watch TV online and stream movies and music. My husband thought that since we now have a permanent place, we can get a fixed internet connection. Cool. BUT, I already see a problem with this type of internet connection—I can’t take it with me. :(

It’s really too bad that we can’t have an internet plan that has it all. Of course I can get another plan but two internet plans will be too costly.

And since surfing is just too frustrating this time, I decided to spend the morning playing with Photoshop. Noticed the new banner? I think it is much better than the old one.

slowing down

I am going to slow down from here on and that’s a very good change from living a busy and stressful life in the last four months. I quit my job and that means I have plenty of time for other things that I put aside for a long time. My blogging for example suffered a lot and this is where I am going to start.

I will also have more time on our home. Decorating and beautifying it is something I didn’t give importance to in these last months. It was sort of enough for me to vacuum clean it twice each week and so some petty chores to keep it clean and orderly.

After that, I will look for other ways to replenish my energy. I have been really pushing myself in the last months. Studying and working at the same time took its toll on me so this time I will treat myself really nice. Perhaps a day or two at a nearby thermal bath would do it. Or perhaps a small trip somewhere-hmmm, i like this idea so I should probably look for some sort of holidays europe offers. It’s just important that it’s affordable though. I mean, being jobless now and so, I should also keep in mind that I can’t just spend money like I used to.

Anyway, I am really happy I can do other things now that I am done with work and my German courses.

my new blog

As I have said in my previous post, I will be starting a new blog and I will be writing about it here. Well, sorry for the delay but let me give you my old excuse… I was busy.  I wanted to write about it right after my first entry but things got in the way and before I know it, 2 weeks have elapsed.

I believe in the saying “better late than never” so please allow me to announce that my new blog Vien’s Pot is now up and running. I would really be grateful if you could include it in your links and to show my gratefulness, I will definitely link back to your blogs (just leave a short comment there to say that you’ve linked that blog up).

Cheers!

A new look

I’ve been using my old theme for almost two years and so I thought that it’s about time to install a new theme. I’ve been merging blogs and seven of them where either merged with this blog or my other blog (Vienna Lopez). The merging of blogs and installing of new themes are the steps I feel I need to do to sort of renew my blogs:  My Pink Notes, Bizarre Marriage, and Vienna Lopez.

I took a step back from blogging in the second quarter of this year because I was preoccupied with other things but now I really would like to renew my blogs and my blogging habit. I know that with the new day job, I won’t be able to manage a lot of blogs. Due to this reason I merged them because I believe that having lesser number of well managed blogs is way better than having a lot of neglected ones.

I also want to have that blogging feeling back and not the constraint of updating 10 blogs and the pure pressure of meeting writing assignments’ deadlines. I want to post only when I have a thought and I want to write about it.

Will I go back to paid blogging? Perhaps but right now, I just want to concentrate on my new job. I also want to focus on blogging but only as a hobby.

So… yeah, my new theme… I like the simple and neat look and feel of it. And because I want to keep it neat, some widgets like mybloglog and blogcatalog and the chat box have to go. I really want to keep my blogs simple this time.

The original color scheme of this theme is grey/black but because I like pink and this blog’s name is My Pink Notes (obviously), I took the pain of changing the color scheme to light-pink/pink. I was a lot of work specially for a non-Photoshop pro like myself but I am pleased with the result.
