Income Report for November, December, and January

Sorry for not being able to update this blog for a long time. I’ve been busy and I am still busy so please excuse this really short entry. I just wanted to give you a short update about what’s up with my blogging and so here it is.

During the first two weeks of November, I tried hard to get as much opps as I can to maximize my earnings but due to poor paying opps and well, no opps at all, I didn’t reach my target. The PR decline of my blogs affected my earnings so much but somehow, I did better in November than in October.

Total: 299.36$

For December, I was honestly expecting to get around 100$ only. The reason to this is because I decided not to write opps so my blogs’ income will only come from link ads. I was busy preparing for my German exam and our holiday to Austria so I didn’t have a lot of time. I didn’t expect much but on the third week, I was able to sell some private ads and that became the main source of my income for the month of December.

I didn’t do any paid blogging for the whole month of January and I also was not able to sell private ads. This is by far my lowest income in my history of blogging. (Not a good start for a new year.)

Enduring the Financial Crisis

If you haven’t felt the effect of the financial crisis, you are quite lucky because I don’t know anyone who isn’t affected by it. My mom who runs a small shop that subcontracts jobs from big garment manufacturing companies noticed that job orders don’t come as often as they used to and her contractors are boldly begging for her to lower her quotations to the limits. In her despair to get some job contracts, she gives in to the demands of her contractors barely leaving her with profits. My mom’s business is too small compared to the company where my husband works but both felt the collapse of the economy.

My husband is in automotive industry so they are among the top businesses that are badly hit by the recession. He, as an employee, felt it too specially in the last two months. A designing project which normally needs 10 engineers to work on it is now forced on lesser number of engineers so that means my husbands and his colleagues will have to work more because their company cannot afford to hire additional staff.

Business owners this time are paddling so hard to fight the currents but what would work if your business is already way down the bend? Would a business loan help it cope with the slump? Maybe. But before you even consider getting a business loan, it is better to consider another source of funding and that is personal savings. If you have faith that your business can get back on track, why not use your own money. In this manner you won’t be worrying about interests and monthly payments. But if personal savings is not an option then get a loan but just be careful to choose the one that is for your business’ interests. Go for loans with lower interest rates and no closing cost or fees.

Income from Blogging for October 2008

I knew it the moment I learned that my PRs went down; my goal of 500$ each month will not be met and that’s what happened. For the month of October, I didn’t even reach the half of my target and that is so bad because this coming November, I need to renew a lot of my webhosting plans and my domain names. And of course, Christmas is fast approaching so money for gifts is much needed.

My blogs’ PRs’ decline affected a lot of things. Lesser writing opportunities (sponsored posts), cheaper links, and I also lost some of my direct advertisers. I don’t know if my blogs will gain back their PRs. I can only hope for that but until they do, I will not expect to earn at least 500$ each month.

What is Page Rank?

To simply put it, Page Rank is being used by Google to measure the importance of you page (blog). It is from 0-10, 10 being the highest. If your blog is new, you normally have a PR of N/A of PR 0. This is because there no other pages linking to your blog yet so it’s best to exchange links (Blogroll links) with other people.

There are a lot of articles written about Page Rank already and I cannot explain it better than the others so I am not about to write another article about it instead, I will direct you to the best definitions of Page Rank. The simplest and most comprehensive definition I can find is here but if you really want to go in the details and the formula of how Google compute a Page Rank of a page, you may read it here.

When you plan to use your blog to earn some money, it’s important to understand Page Rank or, at least, have an idea of how it works. The reason why a lot of advertisers pay bloggers to write about their products and link to them is because they want to appear on the top of search results. In short, they want to manipulate the search results and that is of course NOT OK for Google. It is also important for you to understand that Google is against selling links and sponsored posts. These ruin Googles’ search results so if Google thinks that you use your blog for sponsored posts or link selling; it will give you a PR 0.

Income from Blogging for September 2008

I don’t know how much will I earn this month from blogging but it looks like I won’t be reaching my monthly target of 500.00$ due to PR decline of all of my blogs. It’s already the 19th and I have not even reached the half of that.

For those who don’t know yet, blogging also have its ups and downs. It’s not always pajama party. It’s not like you create a blog and watch it bring you money. No, no, no. You have to continuously work on it. Now, when your blog is “up” try to make the best out of it. What I mean is, try to make as much money as you can from it because there are certainly some dry months too.

Last month was a good month for me. I say this because even if I was studying everyday in the afternoons, I still managed to reach my target but I am not holding my breath for October. Since I’ve learned that my PRs went down, I already know that October, November, and December will be my dry months.

The Future of Blogging for Money

Quality of blog and content is becoming more and more important even to blog advertising networks which were initially accepting any blogs. PPP, for instance, has become stricter with approving blogs to join their network. In fact, they are even dropping blogs that are already part of the network if they proved that these blogs don’t continuously meet their requirements.

One of my blogs was approved by PayPerPost sometime in November and from then on to this day, I made a total of 100 sponsored posts and earned a total of 2,044.51$. That’s not much but considering that it comes from only one blog advertising company (PPP) makes it not bad at all. I am also a part of other blog advertising companies and the total monthly amount I earn from all of them can be surprising but I am most satisfied with PPP.

I am honestly unsure of what the next few months will bring to bloggers who do sponsored posts. Problems such as Google Page Rank drop and the stricter policies of blog advertising companies make blogging for money more difficult.

I think blog advertising is becoming more mature. You cannot just have a blog and advertise in it. Your blog should really be worthy of the ads and at the same time the ads should also be worthy to be placed in your blogs.

Earn Money from your Blogs

Earning money from blogging is not difficult but if you blog for fun then continue doing it that way. Earning money from your blogs also has its consequences so unless you are ready for the consequences, you can’t use your blog to generate money.

Before you sign up in the get-paid-to blog sites listed below, think again. Are you sure you want to use your blog for advertising? Are you prepared to hear other bloggers telling you that your blog is a splog (spam blog) and that it contributes to the pollution of the blogosphere? Are you prepared to be Google slapped and lose your Page Rank? If you are not ready for any of those things then be happy to put some Adsense ads on your sidebar. Adsense is like a turtle money maker but at least, with Adsesne, you are not making an enemy of yourself.

But if you dare to use your blog to earn money, make sure that your blog meets some requirements like;

1. Is your blog at least 90 days old?
2. Are you cache by Google?
3. Do you have a Page Rank?
4. Does your blog contain at least 10 posts for the last 30 days?

These are just some requirements. Your blog has to go through an approval process but if your blog meets the four points listed above, it will most likely be approved by these get-paid-to blog sites:

1. Payperpost: is probably the oldest and most popular blog advertising networks but they have the strictest rules when it comes to everything. Once they accept your blog, you can be sure to have a lot of opportunities because Payperpost have a lot of advertiser.

2. SponsoredReviews: also have a lot of advertisers and the coll thing is, you can set your blog’s minimum price but if your price is too high and your blog does not have impressive Google Page Rank, Alexa Rank, Link Popularity, and Technorati Rank then you’ll probably won’t get a single advertiser.

3. Loudlaunch: pays you monthly for approved posts. They give you two hours to write about an opportunity you accept. Louchlaunch is also a great blog advertising network however they do not have a lot of opportunities yet.

There are more out there but these three are the most reliable. You can expect to get paid for your work on the date stated. And if your blog does not meet the requirements yet, build it up. Give it at least three months. And if for some reason your blog didn’t get approved then you can always resubmit it at a later time.
