sense of style

It’s been a while since I started contemplating on what direction I should steer this blog to.  I picked up niches for my other blogs and I want to do the same for this blog.

Once I toyed with the idea of making this to a personal style blog, because I am really inspired by my two favorite personal style bloggers, whatiwore.tumblr.com and kendieveryday.blogspot.com. I know I can’t be famous like them (even too shy to link up to them), but it would be nice to have a blog where I can also showcase my sense of fashion.

BUT.

Who am I kidding? I am not a fashionista. I am a wash-and-wear-kind-of-girl. I think that if I would be working in the fashion world, I would be one of those working in the background. Like the one who holds the camera reflectors in a photo shoot. LOL. But seriously though, there is also a girly part of me that wishes that I had some sort of “style” to showcase.

OR.

Maybe I just want to have a personal style blog not because I want to express my sense of fashion but because I am passionate about blogging and if could write about every niche, I would. LOL. Personal style is a very nice niche, if only my friend, Lamielle, lives nearby, I’d team up with her because she’s always dress to kill. She’ll be the model and I’ll be the photographer—not a bad idea since I also like photography.  That would be cool!!!

I am just thinking out loud. I like fashion and I do wish I could put a bit more enthusiam in dressing myself up BUT most of the time, I just can’t see the point. They say fashion is about looking great in clothes while feeling good. Well, I feel good in jeans and tees. Whether I look great or not is a question. LOL.

Anyway, the bottom line is; I am a girl, so I do like to dress up sometimes. And if today will be a dress up day for me, I’d wear something like this:

Cute polka dot red dress and black sophisticated pumps. Red lipstick to make my full lips stand out and turquoise purse and accessories! Lovin’ turquoise right now…like.. it can go with just about any color.

Someday, I’ll start a personal style blog. Right now, My Pink Notes will have to stay like it is—a blog about my thoughts on things.

style me preggy

I am pregnant and I am already in that time of pregnancy where I think buying preggy clothes is just a waste of money because I won’t be able to use them after a few weeks.

Funny, when I learned that I am pregnant, I though I don’t have to rush about buying preggy clothes because I still can very well fit to my regular clothes and then, when I can finally fit in preggy clothes, I feel it’s not practical to buy them anymore because…well, what will I do with them after a month or two? I bought some of course but I will definitely not buy more. I am just a couple of weeks or so from my due date so buying preggy clothes now is not anymore an option.

But the problem is, I find it more and more difficult to find clothes from my closet that will fit nicely on me. Not only that! All my shoes seem to be smaller too. Blame it on the ability of my body to retain water. It’s incredible! I can’t wear most of my shoes anymore! And the irony of it all, the shoes I can still wear are those that are not really comfortable for a pregnant woman—shoes with heels! So last week, my hubby and I got these for me.

simple and comfortable flats

They’re nothing special but they will definitely serve their purpose. I can wear them with just about anything—shorts, pants, casual dresses, leggings and preggy tops. They are flat and comfortable too! Their sizes are of course a bit bigger than my regular shoe size but I think I will still be able to wear them after all the water from my feet drained out.

my lips’ bestfriend

I am not a fond of applying makeup. I do so sometimes when I have to attend formal gatherings like weddings and formal dinners but on a regular day, I can go without makeup… not even a powder. I feel more comfortable like that.

But the cold months have set in and this gives me a bit of a problem. See, I have full-size lips and they really hate cold temperatures. They get all dry and cracked up if I don’t coat them with lip balm and  it’s really painful when they do that.

mypinknotes_lipbalmWhen I was a little girl, I hated my lips. I always envied those who have thin and cute lips—the kind of lips considered as beautiful in my part of the world. Here, women go as far as pumping up their lips with collagen to make them look full and pouty.

I suppose, I eventually came to terms with my lips. The fact that they’re big doesn’t bother me anymore but I hate it when they get chapped. So I have stacked up a bunch of lip balm for the cold months and deployed them everywhere—in purses, in pockets, in every room of our flat, in our cars, on tables, in drawers—to make sure that I have one within my reach because during the cold months, I can’t last an hour without applying lip balm.

Sex Myth

Being raised in a religious country, there are just so much about sex that I didn’t know until I turned all adult. Sure we were taught about the basics in school but talking about it outside the Sex Education class was just plain embarrassing.

I remember one myth about sex that I believed until one of my older sisters got pregnant and that was—a woman, once pregnant must not have sexual intercourse until the baby’s out otherwise there’s a big chance that the baby will be badly hurt. So the man must endure around nine months of not touching his wife.

Isn’t that just funny and…well, sort of stupid. I am glad that I have two older sisters who enlightened me about some sex questions I had while growing up.

But did you know that there are more sex myth out there that are just as stupid as that one? If you are the kind of person who believes in sex myths or if you doubt whether that thing you know about sex is a myth or not, better visit Sex.HealthGuru.com. Don’t worry it is a pretty decent site that offers loads of information about sex. For example, they have info about sex health, contraceptives, pregnancy, and even sexually transmitted diseases. This site will surely be helpful in answering your questions about sex.

On having a baby

After almost two years of being married we are naturally bombarded with questions such as

“When is the baby coming?”

“Are you already expecting?”

“No? So when do you plan do you plan on having a baby?”

“Sorry but do you have fertility problems?”

“Don’t you ever like to have babies?”

I always answer these questions politely although sometimes they are kind annoying especially when they come from people who are obviously nosey.

Thing is, we are not yet pregnant because we want to stay that way for the time being. That is to say—we are carefully planning and preparing for it but we are also open to surprises. We will always welcome pregnancy whether it happens now or later like we plan. And when it does, it will certainly be great time for me and my husband. It will be my first time and I am quite happy to know that I have loving a loving husband, parents and in-laws who will support me through the process and will help me and give me tips about pregnancy and about raising a child. And if that is not enough, there are websites created to help expectant parents. Websites such as ParentsConnect.com answers and discusses questions that may arise before or during pregnancy. They have expert advices column that offers pregnancy guidance and support from professionals and there is also a forum where parents can simply share about their pregnancy issues and help others with theirs. This website has the answers to various questions about pregnancy and other things connected to being pregnant.

Such websites are truly helpful to parents who are experiencing a wonderful and special time.

Don’t let the media manipulate your health

Contrary to what we see everywhere, being waif-thin is not healthy. Many would argue that “thin equals beautiful” but that is simply not the case. This popular belief is effortlessly pushed by the media to extremes. It is the media that dictates that we should put much importance on weight and body image and it is the media that says “the thinner you are, the more beautiful you are” but the realistically, a lot of women suffers poor health in their aim to become as thin as they can be.

Women have curves because they’re supposed to have them. If the pharmaceutical companies  that produce weight loss pills and if those designers  create outfits that fit only to child-like figures cannot understand that then shame on them.

You are a woman. It’s completely normal to have curves. Curves are beautiful!

Enough of the “I can’t find a right size that fits me, I have to lose weight!” A dress should fit you and not the other way around. If you can’t find your size, then you are not looking hard enough because there are really good places to get plus size clothes.

Try looking at Plussizefix.com. You’ll see that plus size clothes don’t mean baggy jeans and loose sweatshirts. Their clothing line includes fashionable and smart clothes for ordinary days, casual and special events. And not only that, their items are also affordable.

You are a woman. If you have curves embrace them and flaunt them.

Sassy and Trendy Clothing Line

Did you know that Madonna and Mariah Carey wear Baby Phat shoes ? Yep, Kimora Lee Simmons has done a spectacular job of promoting her incredible clothing line that even big celebs like Mariah and Madonna have shown interest in the label.

For curiosity’s sake, I went to BabyPhat.com to see what they offer and I was amazed to learn that these incredibly sexy and fashionable designer shoes are relatively affordable compared to a lot of other designer labels and they have a sale at the moment.

Other than those lovely shoes, clothing and accessories are also available. In fact, a trendy Baby Phat jacket just got my attention. I’ll probably buy it along with a pair of Baby Path shoes. I am not a big Madonna or Mariah C. fan but I have a soft spot for red sexy pumps.
