A Lose or Lose Situation for Posties
My PR is gone…
Yes. When Google updated its Page Ranking last January 2008, this blog got a PR of 3. I thought…cool. Then I submitted this blog to PPP. After doing 2 opps for PPP, Google took my PR away.
Last night while I was browsing through my PPP opportunities section, I just saw two opps available for me and both don’t require a PR. I already felt something is up so this morning, the first thing I did was to go to a Page Rank checker site ( because I don’t trust my toolbar) to check my PR and sure enough, it is now officially 0.
I think it is cruel of Google to do that and PPP sucks for not being able to do something about it. See, PPP launched RR last January with the aim to fix this Google PR problem but until now advertisers still have the option to require PR.
When will this end? Sure Google has its own reasons to take the PR of blogs doing sponsored posts, sure advertisers have their own reason why they want their sponsored post in blogs with PR, and sure PPP has its own reason why until now they still allow advertisers to require PR. Sure.
But who will look after the interests of posties? We are left with 2 options :
1. Do sponsored posts, have a PR of zero = no opps= no earnings
2. Have a PR, do not do sponsored opps = no earnings
See, either way it is a lose/lose situation for posties.
Don’t tell me to quit blogging and get a real job because for many of us, this is our real job. Blogging is a job and we are working for a company, is it not but right that the company we are working for will also look after our interests and not only theirs?
So…
Payperpost when will this madness end?

I started using PPP 3 weeks ago. When starting, I had a page rank of 1. In that 3 weeks my readership has about quadrupled as evidenced by the fact that my Alexa went from No Data - 15,000,000 - 12,000,000 - 6,400,000 - 2,500,000 and the past few days 1,250,000.
I too checked my rank today and it shows N/A. So I assumed you are right, since the only change other than an improvement in stats has been the addition of PPP posts (but No PPP ads or widgets).
However, I checked one site that has a 2 or 3 Rank and does not use PPP and it too shows N/A today.
I suspect that this is not new rank day, but a google updating databases day. I have seen it before - where no site anywhere shows Google page rank.
Let’s hope I am right. Because if you are right, then it definitely is the ultimate Catch 22.

@ john : i have check your site and it still have a PR 1.
If Google is currently updating its rank, i would be disappointed if your blog remains in Rank 1 and more if you get a PR 0. your blog deserves a lot better.
Hello again.
I checked via seocentro. Maybe they are messed up today.
If my rank goes up or remains unchanged and yours has been wiped out, then my guess would be that it has something to do with the display ads/widgets.
I don’t see how google could detect that a specific post was a paid post, but certainly they can tell if an ad is for a paid post/review service.
Just a thought.

i don’t think so my Blogleafs blog still have a PR even if it has blog network ads on it.
Google is like like : unpredictable
Their ranking basis is not for people to understand…
Hi, Speaking of Google, has anyone who has their Adsense ads on their blogs ever received any payments? I noticed when I set the thing up that the requirements for getting paid were not available.
[…] to let you know that I won’t be blogging for the next few days. This has nothing to do about the disappointing episode with Google and PPP, I will just be very busy. So, […]
Vienna,
I also suspected that this event (Google slapping PR’s) is also a glitch. You have a valid point there. Grab opps while you can which is = earnings.
vienna, my question is the same as urs, when will this ever end?
just enjoy ur vacation over there! take care!
I had a pr4 for both blogs last january update, sobrang tuwa ko na I had many opps, 2 weeks later nawala pr ko, halos wala na rin opps. Kakainis di ba.
[…] like everybody to think that it is still PR that makes the internet go round. Sort of…let the poor posties have their PRs back and do more sponsored posts and let the fool advertisers (fool because they […]
