My Students are Smarter than Me

By Ruthi | May 22, 2008

classroomI am a teacher by profession. I have been in the teaching profession for more than a decade. It was the most productive stage in my life. And as a teacher, I realized that sometimes my students are smarter than me. [Hmmm… maybe we could come up with a new game show as a counter part for Fox’s “Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?” Nah! That was a lousy idea. Told you, my students are really smarter than me.]

Being a teacher I realized that I didn’t only teach my students but I learned from them as well. My students taught me patience. Just like my hubby, as I have mentioned in my other post, Patience is not also my middle name. But then, dealing with them, I got myself an “alias”. They taught me perseverance. They taught me that faith goes beyond believing. And they taught me that trust is more than having confidence in other people.

It was really amazing how we can learn from our young ones. Their innocence is a gift that we grown-ups have given up a long time ago due to ambitions, desires, and greed. Sadly we cannot take it back. But what we can take is the lessons and the inspirations that they are innocently teaching and giving us every day of our lives. Let’s just hope that we are not blind.
