My Life-line

By Ruthi | May 24, 2008

The Internet is my life-line to my “other parts of my life”. I am an immigrant from the Philippines. Coming to U.S. is a major drastic decision I have ever made so far in my entire life. I left behind my family… my friends… my roots. I did this to be with the “love of my life”.

The Internet is instrumental to meeting the “love of my life.” I met him online. And since then we were inseparable. Mountains were moved… oceans were crossed… boundaries were transcended - just to be together for good. I did it all for the “love of my life”.

The Internet is still my life-line to my “life” back home. Everyday I would talk to my brothers back home. Everyday I would talk to them… asking how their day was… most of the time joking with them… sometimes crying with them… other times giving each other strength… and few times, just viewing them on the webcam. I miss them so much. They are my partners-in-crime.

The Internet makes relationship accessible… connected… and on-line [other synonyms please].

My very first teacher was in fact, a dressmaker. My very first teacher was actually my mom and she was also the very first teacher of my two brothers. […]
