Our Treasures
My siblings and I already knew how to read, write, count and tell time before we go to school. School play was a regular household situation when we were growing up. My mother was a dressmaker and a stay-at-home mom. And in order to keep watch of us 3 kids while making beautiful dresses for her costumers, she would have us 3 kids playing school by her side. My dad made a chalkboard where we can write and we have ample supplies of drawing and writing materials because my dad worked for a printing press company that time.
Both my parents did not have college degrees. They only graduated high school. But they were able to provide us the best treasure that they can provide – education. All 3 of us graduated with college degrees. My father believed that education is the only treasure in this world that no one can steal. My mother, on the other hand, placed the first jewels in our treasure boxes. We miss them both.
