A Smooth Move

After two months of being in Shanghai, I can say that we are finally settled. We found a nice flat and decorated it. We learned how to go about the city. We learned how to go to places. We learned how to use the Subway. In short, we already developed our routines and now that we finally did all those, we can start to really “live” in this city.

I thought I cannot go through all the moving stuff like sorting, packing, arranging for the transport, unpacking, and all the things in between but I did it with a little help from my husband. If you are about to go through the same thing and you’re worried because you don’t know how to go through it, don’t underestimate what you can do. You’ll be surprised in the end to learn that you were able to do it all. But if you are a part of a bigger family or if you are emptying a big house where you live for 10 or 20 years—that could only mean “a lot of things to pack” therefore, “a lot of things to do”. Movers in this situation should get help from moving companies because it is absolutely more practical. And if you don’t know where to get one, visit 123movers.com because this site is like a database of moving companies and through this site you’ll surely find that moving company you can be comfortable with. Just give yourself some time to browse through the “moving company reviews”. In this way, you’ll have an idea of the reliability of the moving company you are hiring. Plus you’ll also be able to request for further information and quotes. With 123movers.com, you can plan a smooth move.

A Hot Pot Day

I was badly craving for steamed rice that day. Marcus knows that if I don’t get steamed rice in more than two days, I get grumpy. So that one particular day we agreed to walk around the neighborhood to look for a restaurant that serves steamed rice because there’s no way I am going to eat pizza, or pasta, or steak with pomme frites without eating rice first . And so I found one and it’s the first we’ve bump into. I was already very hungry and I refuse to walk another 5 minutes or so to find another restaurant so I insisted to just go in this place. This restaurant was not a very enticing but I am very sure that they serve rice so after a little persuasion, Marcus agreed to go in. It was a hot pot—the kind where they put this huge pot with soup and flavorings in the middle of the table with a burner and you just put the raw meat pieces, vegetable, etc. in the pot and let it cook.

I ordered but Marcus didn’t. He said he is not hungry but he would like to get a cold coke to drink. So I ate alone and I ate with gusto even if I can feel Marcus’ disgust the whole time.

Busy Bee

Marcus is back from his two-week business trip in Shenyang. That explains why my blogging and other internet activities are lessened since Friday. I honestly missed him when he was away but I was glad that I had two weeks of undisturbed internet usage. :D

We initially planned to fly to Hong Kong this weekend but we decided not to because we have a lot of things to do. My German course is almost done and we’ll be having out final exam next week and after that I’ll take another exam so I’ll be eligible to receive a certificate showing that I satisfactorily finished the course and passed it. So I have to prepare for that.

The week after next week, we’ll fly to Austria for two weeks vacation. We’ll also need some time to do the shopping for gifts and to plan our itinerary for these two weeks.

Plus, there is this blogging community project I am doing and at the moment it is working but it is still not 100% ready. I still need to do a lot of work on that. Having a quiet day in front of my computer seems to be impossible in the next weeks although that’s all I want.

Lazy Friday Afternoon

It’s Friday afternoon and it’s the second day that I didn’t attend my class. Yesterday, I didn’t notice the time. Seriously. I was so busy with something and when I realized that I should be having my class, it was already too late. Today, I intentionally did not attend my class. That’s bad. I know.

And like all the people who are doing bad things :D , I will try to justify why I didn’t attend my class today. It’s because that class has gotten boring. It is pretty much towards the end already and there are just four students left out of the original 15 students. And these 4 students (me included) take turns in not attending the class. Haha. Last Monday, there were just 3 students and one was sleeping in the class.

Oh well, the beauty of it is that I am a student not the teacher so I am only answerable to myself if I didn’t attend my class. It’s good to be on the other side of things.

Home Alone

It’s utterly boring here. Marcus is away in a business trip for a week or two and it sucks. The longest time we haven´t seen each other since we were married was I think 10 days. That was when I went home to the Philippines earlier than him so I can spend longer time with my mom and sisters. It was already bad then even if I was with my family… now I am alone so it´s worse and it looks like we won´t see each other for more than 10 days. :(

When he told me there´s a business trip he should go to, my first reaction was… ok. I thought it shouldn´t be that bad. I can spend this time all to myself and I can stay longer in front of my computer. :D But now that he is not here, it doesn´t feel nice. I don´t know how to explain it but I am just so used to having him around even if he sometimes bothers me with what I am doing. He walks around the house and he talks to me about some random thing when he knows I am focused on something like blogging, reading, studying, etc.

He wanted to take me with him but I can´t miss two weeks of school and Shenyang does not particularly excite me. We´ve been there last spring and we didn´t like it. I pity him that he needed to go there. I hope he can come home earlier than two weeks because I really miss him already even if he just went there this morning.

Got a Patient

We thought it was just the alcohol but it looks like Marcus might have caught something because he is still not feeling well until now.

Last Friday, we went out with some friends and watched the Olympics’ opening ceremonies in a bar. After watching, we decided to sit out and finish our drinks there to avoid the loud crowd inside. I remember it rained and although there were sunshades…err… big umbrellas… (don’t know exactly how it’s called) outside, we (specially Marcus) still got wet so maybe this and lack of sleep are the reasons and why he’s got a fever.

Yesterday morning he refused to eat anything because he’s so sure he’s going vomit whatever he eats. I didn’t force him and I just let him stay in bed the whole day but at finally at 5:00 in the afternoon, I got worried so I decided to take his temperature and it read that he’s got a fever.

It was difficult but in the end I got him to eat something and I gave him medicine after that. At 10 pm I gave him the second tablet and few hours later, he’s temperature started going back to normal.

He’s better now. Not fully okay and his temperature is still a little bit above normal but I think he’s gonna be fine. The medicine I am giving him is working fine and he started eating again without me forcing him.

A Letter to my Tutor

Dear Eun Hye,

Hello! How are you and Larry? I hope everything is fine with you guys.

Marcus and I are okay. We arrived in Shanghai on June 30th and we stayed in a hotel for three weeks. Now, we found an apartment in Pudong District and. The apartment is smaller than what we have in Changchun but it’s nicer.

I have to say, I like Shanghai more than Changchun. Shanghai is super hot and polluted but life is way easier here. Most of the people here are able to speak English and there are a lot of things to do here …unlike in Changchun.

About my German… my exam (in Austria) is scheduled on October 5th. I was advised to finish all three required books (A1/1, A1/2, and A2/1) before I take the exam. We only finished 2 books so I decided to continue learning German here in Shanghai.

A fews weeks ago I went to a university to enroll for the A2 course but because I don’t have official certificate showing I finished A1 course, the university needed to check if I am qualified to take A2 course so they gave me some exams. The results were excellent! This means, I don’t need to go through A1! Thanks for again for tutoring me.

In other news, I think Marcus’ boss needs to talk to Larry about a job. Well, I am not sure. I just heard them talking (in German) about this and because my German is not that good yet, I might be wrong. But if I am right… well, it would be great to have you and Larry here in Shanghai.

So, I’ll end my email here. Nice greetings to Larry. Write me back because I am dying to hear from you!

Best regards,
Vienna
