Problem with Sleepless Nights

I have been sleepless for the last four or five days due to a lot of reasons. First is the fact that my husband is not here. He’s on a business trip somewhere and he won’t be coming home until Friday. I am just not used to sleeping alone anymore. The second reason is stress. Stress from my studies, my blogging, and some projects I am working. And like those reasons are not enough… my bed adds up. You see, my bed is also not exactly what you can call a “comfortable bed”. That Precious Remote

Big Brother’s House Guests are facing eviction as of this writing. How cares?

I don’t usually watch “reality shows” neither my Hubby but there is no other TV shows that he can watch because the TV set that he is watching is not connected to our cable service. He cannot complain because his dear 7-year old son monopolizes the remote control of the plasma TV in the living room [where the cable is plugged] because Spongebob Squarepants’ newest episode is on. And insisting his stature as the head of the family will only lead to tantrums and pit. So he doesn’t want to take that chance.

Oh well, good thing I don’t really love watching TV that much or else I will also wage war to win the good fight with that “precious” TV remote.

Closer Than Ever

brothersBeing away from home for more than a year, I can say that I don’t really miss home. Don’t get me wrong. I kinda miss home but I have a different explanation for that. You see, when I was still in the Philippines, I was practically home alone. Both of my parents already passed away and I only have 2 brothers. One who was staying in Pampanga with his family at that time and the youngest who stays in Manila where he works. He only came home on weekends or when his itinerary was not too hectic. So I seldom saw and talked to them.

Now that I am 10,000 miles away from home I talk to my brothers more often. I see and talk to my younger brother almost everyday and my other brother who is now based in China at least once a week. Thanks to modern technology. It does bring people from different parts of the world closer than I could imagine.

Making a Home

It’s been almost two months since we moved in here in Shanghai and almost everything about this city is still new for us. It’s still a place far away from our families and friends and we still need a few more months until we can call this place “home” but we are working on it already. We try to go out and meet new people as much as we can and of course we already start working on our new flat to make it homier.

We started with the basics things and I think we have them all now. Meaning, it is now time to start giving our flat its character. I made a list of what else to buy and a couch bed made it to number one. We’ll put the couch bed in my office. That room will be converted to a guest room whenever we have guests. We also agreed to get some plants and some fancy rugs for the living room and for the office/guest room. Of course we didn’t forget about the clocks since we need one in each of the rooms. For the living room, we decided to get a simple mantel clock instead of the old time favorite grandfather clock and for the dining room, we will hang a modern wall clock. I have read somewhere that clocks are one of the pieces that we can use to spruce up a new place and make it something that is more familiar to us and I completely agree to that.

I think we are in a good way to making our new flat into a “home”.
